JD/MPH Information
Application Instructions
Admission to the JD/MPH joint degree program requires admission to both the
GSPH and the School of Law.
Admission to the joint-degree program can be granted either prior to
attending either the GSPH or the School of Law, or prior to completion of
the first or second year of study at the law school. Students who have begun
their studies at GSPH and are later admitted to the School of Law may seek
permission to enter the joint degree program by transfer into the Department
of Health Policy and Management.
Applications can be completed through the online application process.
Entrance
Examination Admission to the School of Law requires the LSAT; the GSPH does not require the GRE for admission of JD/MPH Program candidates.
Tuition and Financial
Aid Students accepted into the joint-degree program are charged tuition at the following rates:
-
During the first year at the School of Law, the current School of Law tuition -
During the first year at the GSPH, Health Policy & Management, the current GSPH tuition -
During all other years or semesters, the current School of Law tuition. |
For any semester, students should apply for financial aid to the school in which they are paying tuition during that semester.
Writing Requirements
The writing requirements for both degrees are
simultaneously satisfied by completion of the School of Law's upper-level
writing requirement on a subject relevant to health law or public health
law. This requirement is coordinated through the School of Law but the topic
must also be approved by the GSPH JD/MPH advisor.
Field Experience At least one placement is required during the summer of a school year. The placement is in a law firm or the office of the counsel to a health organization or system, a health policy agency or a governmental health regulatory or administrative agency. These placements are coordinated through the Department of Health Policy & Management in GSPH. Enrollment in the Family Support Clinic in the School of Law may also satisfy this requirement.
